Puerta del Sol
The Puerta del Sol was one of the entries in the wall that surrounded Madrid in the fifteenth century and the name comes from a sun that was in the door. Originally it was, therefore, a point outside of the city, but due to its location and growth of Madrid to the east, was gradually becoming a key to exit the area. Today is the nerve center of the city, symbolized by the mile "0", which also represents the point from where all Spanish roads. The most important building in the square is the Casa de Correos, built in 1768 and currently houses the headquarters of the Presidency of the Community of Madrid. The Puerta del Sol has been suffering throughout history a series of reforms. In the 1990 equestrian statue was placed a work of Carlos III Stride sculptors Eduardo and Miguel Angel Rodriguez. It also installed a statue of the Bear and the Strawberry Tree Navarro Santa Fe sculptor. One of the symbols of Madrid and usual meeting place, has been a privileged witness of everyday life in Madrid since 1967, and has recently been relocated to the junction with the Calle Alcalá.
